Hello Ashland, this is your wake up call. For anyone who doesn't know, Ott is seriously a WIZARD of a producer of some the finest electronic music out there. Lush, soulful, melodic, this is not your daddy's four on the floor duff duff. It is a huge treat to have him come.

That being said, please spread the word. Stillwater is working hard to bring top notch acts to our town, and it is vital that we support their efforts if we would like to see it continue. If you can't make it, then get someone else to go. They won't be dissaponted.

a description I found:

"The most fantastic modern dub from West Country reclusive genius Ott, whose album really is over the top in quality, depth and shinning brilliance. Spacey strings, chants, otherworldly noises and pertinent samples collide with his massive rub a dub beats and bass. Otts music is a world to its own, a pure undiluted atmospheric world of swirling stoned sound and colour. Indian to Arabic to African Otts, dubs are boundaryless and boundless in their, scope and strength. Otts music is a paradox of dub, not stereotypically slow heavy sounds but at once an upbeat dancey dub full of light, world chants and funky beats, while still maintaining a slow and relaxed ambient groove. Following on from his Hallucinogen In Dub album (TWSCD16) for Twisted Records this solo album is a selection of clean hard grooves and the best dub studio skills, echo, delay, phasing, instruments popping up out of the murk and then submerging again, skills of which Ott is a particular maestro. Ott is no stranger to the studio, he has for the last 20 years been producing arranging and recording some of the most famous artists including Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, and Brian Eno. He continues to work with many famous artists and along his travels has met up with master producer Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen, editing Shpongle. After hearing his studio skills Simon commissioned him to make this modern dub album as an antithesis to his own hurtling trance music. The results are as you shall see are startling, a stunning example of modern dub and one that is massive with all dance music and ambient music fans across the globe."

see you there!
3-Day Experiential Workshop
June 27 - 29, 2008
Talent, Oregon

In the Flower of Life workshop we introduce the Right Eye of Horus Mystery School Teachings of sacred geometry (as presented originally by Drunvalo Melchizedek) and combine them with a powerful breath and meditation technique called the MerKaBa Meditation. The combination of the sacred geometry teachings and the meditation create a doorway through which the student may travel beyond time and space to the unified living field of which we are all a part -- the living energy of all creation. As students become more adept in this practice, their lives change profoundly as their eyes open to the unlimited potential of the human spirit!

Topics covered in the workshop include:

*Sacred Geometry
*The MerKaBa Meditation and The Unity Breath
*Connecting with Higher Self and Opening the Heart

The end of an era.

After several years of world-class concerts, poetry slams, parties and fun, the Mobius in Ashland is closing its doors. “I love this room, but it is time for us to expand and take it to the next level.” says production manager, Marla Welp. “We are very pleased to announce that we are moving into the Mojo Rising studio, now to be known as EQUILIBRIUM, at 140 Lithia Way in downtown Ashland.”

Many will fondly remember the Mobius as the scene of fabulous intimate concerts and parties, but there was much more going on behind the scenes. The team at Mobius has been hard at work developing the Equillibrium Project, the goal of which is to use entertainment as fuel to inspire a rapid transition to sustainability.

Equilibrium is balance: a state or situation in which opposing forces or factors balance each other out and stability is attained. Now it is also a state of the art multi-media production facility and internet-television broadcast studio, as well as being a live music venue and nightclub.

Our first show in the new space will be Grupo Fantasma from Austin, TX on Monday February 18th. "They're the best band in Austin" confesses Austin Chronicle and Village Voice music critic Jim Caliguiri as Fantasma takes home its sixth straight ‘Best Latin Band' title at this years' Austin Music Awards. "The only other band I've seen get that kind of audience reaction was the Ramones…with all of their releases the band has become even more adventurous, mixing styles in ways that are unexpected but ruled by the groove. This group of enthusiastic youngsters has grown into a monstrous and masterful ensemble that has sold more than 20,000 discs independently. Their chops and confidence continue to grow but the raw, boisterous attitude remains. The band successfully obliterates the clichés that often plague the current Latin music market, all the while keeping their feet firmly planted in the traditions that they love and deeply respect." The show is at 8:00pm and costs $12 in advance/$15 at the door.

Mobius Live has digitally immortalized the moments when the raw energy driving the rhythm shattered the bounds of audience and performer, to become that transcendent experience that can only be created in a live show. The magical evenings at the Mobius have been recorded and will be made available by EQ.TV. In fact, you can go to EQ.TV now and view clips from past Mobius Live shows by clicking on the Watch EQ.TV tab.

“Our goal is to develop Equilibrium into an unmatched experience where visitors take in world-class music while participating as the live studio audience for the global broadcast. There isn’t any other business that offers this kind of service to our community. And the best part is, even if you’re not able to get down on the dance floor, you can still cut loose in the comfort of your own home by watching the webcast on EQ.TV. Personally, I’m just grateful be part of it” says co-founder Jason Gallagher.

One facet of the Equilibrium project is EQ CONNECT. EQ Connect is a social networking site (like tribe or myspace) that supports a growing community of people who are passionate about ecological and economic sustainability (and music!). You can blog, post music, video or photos and create groups to discuss topics of common interest.

Another facet is the Equilibrium Institute. EQ.I is a nonprofit 501(c)3 that is dedicated to economic and ecological sustainability. The Equilibrium Institute’s mission is three-fold: to perform ecological restoration, to stimulate green economic development, and to serve as a globally accessible institute for sustainability education. EQ.I accomplishes these objectives through its sustainability projects, overseeing the restoration and redevelopment of misused urban properties, infrastructures, and open spaces. These projects contribute to sustainable economic growth by employing products and services of green businesses and organizations, while providing students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in apprenticeships with leading sustainability specialists. Through EQ.I’s partnership with Equilibrium Television, each project is also filmed and broadcast on the internet as inspiring educational programs.

The third facet of the Equilibrium Project is EQ BAZAAR (Grand Unveiling Coming Soon) EQ Bazaar is an E-Commerce site featuring digital media downloads and sustainable lifestyle products & services.

33% of all profits generated by EQ Media go directly to our sister organization, The Equilibrium Institute.

We invite you to participate in the EQ Project. Come check out Equilibrium at 140 Lithia Way in Ashland, Join EQ Connect, invite your community, network and have fun, set up a store in the EQ Bazaar, or hire EQ Media to help you tell your story. However you participate, you will be contributing to the transition to a thriving culture of sustainability.
This event is to raise awareness and raise our voices about the Bureau of Land Management's assault on our remaining old-growth in western Oregon. In August, the Bush Administration released a plan to clearcut our remaining public old-growth for a short-term economic gain. These are public lands, and we are entrusting the government to manage them on our behalf - now is the time to speak up for those that have no voice. The public comment period ends January 11th. Now is the time to mobilize ourselves, our neighbors and our friends, for the trees, for the future.
Here is a message from Peter Joseph, Zeitgeist’s filmmaker: “Zeitgeist was created in the hope that it will inspire people to start looking at the world from a more critical perspective, and to relay the understanding that very often things are not what the population at large think they are. The true understanding of events, both historical and modern, are crucial to the development, awareness and spirituality of the human condition. Zeitgeist is an exposé on the social fallacies that currently plague this fundamental progress by way of critically analyzing common political, religious and economic understandings which most have assumed to be true.”
About Vagabond Opera
Based in the Pacific Northwest, yet encompassing the world, Vagabond Opera delivers passionate offerings of Bohemian cabaret. Paris hot Jazz, Yiddish Theater, Tangos, Ukrainian folk-punk ballads, and vigorous originals invoke a world of Riverboat gambling Queens, Turkish Belly dance, and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich. Weaving elements of Kurt Weil, Duke Ellington and Edith Piaf with absurdist flair, theatrics and an old world mood, Vagabond Opera presents the new wave of opera--lusty (trained) voices singing in 11 languages, with accordion, saxophones, bass, percussion, dance, and costumes, all played with exuberance, skill and a gritty Vagabond edge. This is Opera liberated and reinvented for the rest of us.

Hello Mobius Patrons,

If you believe--as we do--that Live Music and Arts at the Mobius contributes positively to Ashland's rich diversity of theatre entertainment, please read this very important message.

This Tuesday (8/14/2007) marks a milestone for the Mobius as we go in front of the Planning Commission for a proposed change in our zoning status, to zone the Mobius as a Theatre. If successful, this proposed zoning change will be a major step in our transition to become a LIVE INTERNET BROADCAST THEATRE (for more info on "Mobius Live", see below).

In response to the notice posted on The Mobius announcing the hearing, concerns have been submitted in writing by businesses on Fourth Street. Honestly, while we were surprised by the language used by some of the authors (one went so far as to call the Mobius "a tragedy waiting to happen"), we understand that a change as significant as this would naturally raise some questions and concerns. We feel that these businesses have not taken the opportunity to experience what the Mobius has to offer, and would support us if they enjoyed it as much as you do.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Since supporting statements are not accepted in writing (only concerns) the scales are presently tipped toward the negative, and WE NEED YOUR HELP IN SHOWING THE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF THE MOBIUS!

We are confident that we are a positive addition to the block, the district, and the greater community of Ashland, and that we contribute to the entertainment available in this town with a diversity and caliber unique to this venue. Now, with the launch of Mobius Live!, we are contributing to the international exposure of Ashland, diversifying the community's reputation for music and the arts, and serving as a voice to promote the entire community.

THIS IS HOW YOU CAN HELP:

There are two ways you can show your support.

1) Join us at the hearing on Tuesday 8/14/07, 7 PM at 1155 E. Main and support the Mobius in its application to change our zoning status to a Theatre. Upon arrival, please fill out a card and mark your support of the Mobius. Even if you can't stay to be heard, the pile of cards is a measure of support so please fill one out. (Also, your visibility contributes to the decision, so let our person at the door know you are there to support the Mobius, and we will provide you with some visual token to highlight your support.)

2) While attendance at the hearing is the most potent way you can show your support, we would like to give all people the opportunity to be heard. Come by the Mobius anytime between 2-5pm on Thursday, Friday, or Monday to video tape a short statement of support that we will edit and present to the Planning Commission. (If the times do not work for you, send us an email and we will try to find a time that works for you.)

We have a beautiful vision for the Mobius. Right now, this vision lies in the hands of the Planning Commission. The zoning change would significantly raise the venue's legal occupancy, and will allow us to have more people attend shows, thus giving us access to ever increasing caliber of performers and a global audience for the live streams and rebroadcast of archives. Your support could tip the scales to allow us to continue and grow into what we have planned, which includes many more top tier acts, grammy award winners, and international stars coming to our beautiful little town to be broadcast internationally, appearing in the most intimate venue of their international tour. Please come out and support us.

Oh, and one last thing: It is very important that all of our efforts to help the Mobius remain POSITIVE, as negativity only creates greater rifts.

We thank you in advance for your support and positive efforts on behalf of the Mobius.

~The Mobius Family

About Mobius Live!:
You may have noticed the video cameras and the buzz in the control room (behind the window in the back). Perhaps you have already enjoyed a webcast (or seen the feed at the Venue). No doubt you have noticed the consistent increase in the caliber of talent performing at the Mobius. Highlights this past year include: Victor Wooten (of Bella Fleck and the Flecktones), Tony Furtado, Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett (of Little Feat), Sherry Glaser, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Jackie Green, Alice DiMicele (http://www.alicedimicele.com/), The Yard Dogs Road Show, and this week's stellar two show night by jazz guitar superstar Charlie Hunter (and his equally stellar Trio).

The Indigo Belly Dance and Miles Copeland bring you Le Serpent Rouge. Vintage cabaret meets vagabond elegance in a strange brew of Belly Dance and Ragtime, Vaudevillian, Mid-Eastern and Gypsy music. Sometimes enchanting, sometimes macabre, often raucous, but always delightful, these performers breathe new life into the movement and spectacle of a bygone era in this knockdown revue.
Well Susan and I talked about this last night at the Mystical Oasis Festival [which was very fun]..
Anyway here is an idea for helping in a small financial way.

A "VIRTUAL CONTEST"
I will design an entry form and post on tribes.. You print out the entry and fill in the information. Your dancer name...what you are dancing to... your costume...and a picture of you in it ! [the Kuchlin and family/friends can make a scrap book of them] and then also anything unique or totally awesome about you dance...I myself think it is time for the Turkish Drop - and I have a feeling it is going to be perfect ! Then mail it the address that will be on the entry form along with you entry fee. Now the fee is your choice on amount. Those of us who have done contest know it is usually $20 to $40 to enter but novice..like a hafla entry $5 is great too. [really what ever you can contribute I am sure is more than appreciated]
I think that as far as choosing "Winners" I have a feeling it will be a hard decision and probably a TIE... maybe we will need a dance off at a later date ?!?!?

I'm new to the Ashland area, unplugged from alot.....and am needin' to get to earthdance in a hurry! I'm settin' up a "Captain planetary parfait" compost and drum center for kids ( and big and little) at earthdance. The material for the drums is being donated (you may see me around town collecting it) and I'm needing to start setup ASAP(like should be in Laytonville Sunday).....(I have room if anyone wants to head down a little early) I would of had more time to collect funds....but last minute I decided this was the year I needed to make it out to the Black Rock City. And WOW am I glad I did!!!! One of those things that you don't know what you're missing until you go....and once you're there.....you're planning next year. Yeah....still decompressing.....

Anyway.....I'm needin some GAS (galactic activation starter-fluid) money and quick!! I make a GREAT freah/baked pie which can be delievered to your door (any combination of fruits), I can free flow for you, yard work, house-clean, baby-sit, run errands......tell you a bit about your gaiametry, I design costumes.........heck....I'll even wash your plya-fied car! Just needin to have lift off by Sunday so as to kick off this next event without any hitches!!! Anything helps!! Give me a ring at 1-323-428-5770 or respond to this post!!

Got any extra hides? gourds? lace for stretching drums? emal me, I'll come take it off your hands so that you can be a part of the heart -start drum beat project!

Lovin' you all! And happy full moon!!!!!! namaste and a' blessed you be-a!!! BEE

Don't miss out on this show coming up this Thursday @ The Mobius. Check out some sound clips of this band at: www.izabellaband.com/music.html (listen to Ophelia & Deal > Big River).

Members of Bay Area’s Home At Last (now Izabella), The Ritual, and The Garrin Benfield Band have come together to honor their roots, playing the music of The Dead, The Band, Dylan, Allman Brothers, The Beatles, Jerry Band, Traffic and more. They will also explore original compositions, showing how influence translates to inspiration.

Home At Last (HAL) came together in late 2002. Beginning with only good intentions, incredible talent, and some helpful experience, Home At Last has found a unique and powerful voice after three years of touring, recording, and soul-searching. 2006 is an important year of growth and change for this band, beginning with the release of their first full-length album, Wampus Room, back in January.

"Benfield's all-around talent includes a gift for beautiful songwriting on top of his prowess as a singer and musician." (Advocate Magazine, 12/05). Benfield's shows center on his quirky pop melodies but are stretched by Garrin into improvisational explorations into new territory each night. At once organic and eclectic, Garrin's shows are an experience as much as they are a musical concert. Utilizing electronic effects and a loop station, audiences find themselves grooving to atmospheric rhythms and settling back into Benfield's soothing vocal style.

Jordan Feinstein is an outstanding musician & founder of the SF institution/band: The Ritual. Jordan cites Steve Winwood, Brent Mydland, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Billy Preston as his biggest influences. He is a key collaborator in several Bay Area bands, including Tea Leaf Green, ALO and New Monsoon.

Don’t miss this talented collection of players at The Mobius in Ashland on Thursday, July 13th…

"It's hard to find a more fruitful meditation on American music than in the compositions of guitarist Bill Frisell. Mixing rock and country with jazz and blues, he's found what connects them: improvisation and a sense of play. Unlike other pastichists, who tend to duck passion, Mr. Frisell plays up the pleasure in the music and also takes on another often-avoided subject, tenderness." - The New York Times

“Frisell is a revered figure among musicians – like Miles Davis and few others, his signature is built from pure sound and inflection; an anti-technique that is instantly identifiable.” - The Philadelphia Inquirer

These guys are a lot of fun to get down to ~ Yeah!!! Im stoked on moving to Ashland, this looks like it will be my 1st live music experience there, yippe =)

here is a bio of Zilla

ZILLA is a Colorado based trio of musicians with the live musical experience in mind. A 100% organic, improvised creation, each ZILLA concert proves to be a completely unique occurrence, with even the band members having no idea where the music will take them night after night. Relying on their uncanny ability to listen and incorporate their individual talents into a group focused brand of live electronic dance music, ZILLA is sweeping the world by storm with their rare breed of beats, bass and uncontrollable musical fury making each performance exactly what live music is all about: spontaneity, flow, grooves and a damn good dance party.

Forming in Boulder, CO, ZILLA has three-man roster comprised of acclaimed musicians: Michael Travis, Jamie Janover and Aaron Holstein.

Michael Travis (drums, percussion, keyboards, sampler, mallet Kat) has spent over a decade as the driving percussive force in the nationally popular band, The String Cheese Incident. Travis continues to be an innovator of improvisational drumming, managing to play hand percussion and/or melodies while simultaneously keeping incredible time with the kit.

Aaron Holstein (guitar, bass, sampler, keys) has had a long and lush musical history, playing guitar with bands such as Boogie Shoes and Vibe Squad. Holstein’s progression has transformed him from the notion of a typical guitar player, to an applauded adapter leaving behind the traditional notions of what it is to “jam” with a guitar or bass.

Jamie Janover (hammered dulcimer, Mini-kit, electric kalimba, mini-sitar, sampler, percussion, tamboura, tongue drum, water) is a world-renowned hammered dulcimer innovator whose long list of band credits is more than impressive. Winner of the 2002 national hammered dulcimer championships, Janover continues to expand the limits of all his instruments by creating a fusion between their timeless sounds and the pertinent call of today’s modern dance scene.

While each individual’s accomplishments are impressive, the group identity theory behind ZILLA is what truly makes the band unique. The constant focus of the group is to create a whole, complete sound devoid of fragmentation, tangential wandering solos and other characteristics that plaque improvisational music today. The music strives to serve all those participating, including the audience. No one in the band has any idea what is going to happen a nanosecond ahead of time; they rely on their instincts and musical history together to create a sound that rarely strays from its intended direction. The collective whole is truly the dominant force in this band.

The music itself is a plethora of grooves, beats and highly percussive breaks, which cause the listener to become engulfed within the sonic vortex of sounds encompassing them. From down-tempo to jungle, from trip-hop to break-beat and trance the band plays on pure emotion, so each night is different and varied, and no song is ever the same.

ZILLA is about being as aware as humanly possible in the moment. The band plays, the crowd reacts, the band reacts and so on and so on. A cyclical paradigm is created in which everyone plays a part. A whole new form of tension-release music has been created in which the music never has to resolve itself in order to sustain the mood. It merely adapts, evolves and heads in whatever direction is guided by the flow of the dance collective.

Essentially, ZILLA is the ultimate live experience - future music. Many bands try to accomplish the amount of telepathic musical communication that these three musicians have attained their entire careers. This band is all about the music first, which is how it should be. The music plays the band, and not the other way around. ZILLA is currently touring in support of their latest CD release called “Egg”. Their infectious energy has crowds from North America to Japan dancing up a storm to a completely new brand of live musical experience.

Peace ~ Chad

Open Mic

Sun. 15th, 8pm Sliding scale $3-7

Hackensaw Boys

Appalachian bluegrass-tinted folk
Mon. 16th, Doors at 7pm, Show at 8pm
Tickets: $8 students/$12 general @ the door. Advance: $10 @ Music Coop, Ashland

The Hackensaw Boys are a fantastic group of traditional old-timey musicians that appeal to both young and old alike. A testament to that would be their having shared the stage with the likes of The Del McCoury Band, Modest Mouse and Camper Van Beethoven.Their newest album, Love What You Do, consists of 12 original songs that invoke the band`s old-time roots and sensibilities even as they blur the lines that separate old-time, folk, country and rock. Taken together, the songs relate both the heartbreaks and joys of a group that strives to deliver music that matters.

Victor Barnes

Insurgent Bluegrass

Victor Barnes, of Northern Colorado, has been wearing out shoes on dance floors from Seattle to New Orleans with their original style of bluegrass-infused music since 1999. When they're not playing with national acts like Yonder Mountain String Band, The North Mississippi All-Stars and Railroad Earth at venues across the west, Victor Barnes can be found serving the needs of their loyal fan-base at venues throughout the Colorado Front Range. Local favorites the Moore Brothers to open.

The Hounds

Funk ~Soul ~Reggae ~Rock

Fri. 20th, 8:30pm $7 general /$5 students

The music of The Hounds is a specially crafted blend of funk, soul, reggae, and rock. It was created in their secret laboratory for the express purpose of defeating their evil villian THE SQUARE, who wants to put everything in a box and sell it on the internet for $19.95. Venues across the pacific northwest have been infected with "The Hounds Virus", which causes helpless patrons to dance and party as long as The Hounds are present. Many such patrons have been known to become "Partyphiliacs" while still others claim they have been "Booglized".
Largent (percussion) draw on a variety of influences – jazz and funk, Afro-Cuban, gypsy and klezmer, celtic, middle-eastern, and classical music to create a uniquely complex yet accessible sound they call “Seismic Gypsy Hypno-Jazz.” TAARKA, a national touring act, has shared the stage with friends like the Everyone Orchestra, Yonder Mountain, String Cheese Incident, Spearhead and others. The band members also have side projects of note: Jason; theVagabond Opera, Dale; Coyo, and David and Enion; thaMuseMeant (Frogville Planet Records). Taarka is also excited about recording their new album, due out early 2006.
Lunar Imbolc Women's Gathering

Rising with the light

Sun. 29th, 7 pm $3-7 donation

This time marks the mid point between Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, and has long been celebrated as a time of honoring Mother Earth and the Divine Feminine within. "As glaciers begin to melt, rivers swell and rains wash away what is no longer useful. She prepares herself for the new year's growth, through elemental cleansing." The Earth is warming, as sap begins to rise up in the trees. All around us, nature mirrors the beauty and the balance in the cycles of life. Imbolc teaches us how to ready ourselves for our own new growth through symbolic cleansing. This evening of the new moon will be a community gathering to encourage and celebrate new life.

Recalling contemporary artists like Tori Amos and Patti Griffin, her voice also evokes hints of jazz singers like Sarah Vaughn ~ understated, sultry and laced with delicate vocal precision while maintaining a depth that is expressive and emotionally forthright. Stephanie's band has opened for national acts including Chris Isaak, Marc Cohen, Hall and Oates, Andy Summers (of the Police), Dan Fogelberg, Aimie Mann, Shawn Mullins and more. She has toured extensively throughout the West and the Northeast.

“A talented multi-instrumentalist, cross-pollinating rambler, and budding songwriter, Tony Furtado is an eclectic musician with a knack for mining musical gold from the American folk tradition while also incorporating the best of contemporary rock music. He's lived in Washington D.C. and Boulder, Colorado as well as in a few different cities scattered across his home state of California, and his accomplishments include winning the Grand National Banjo Championship twice(1987 and 1991) and recording with roots luminaries such as Alison Krauss, Laurie Lewis, Jerry Douglas, Grant Street, David Grier, Tony Trischka, Mark Schatz, and Kelly Joe Phelps." ~Jambase.com

Fishtank is a lively and unusual ensemble consisting of violin, saw, accordion, shamisen, flamenco guitar, bass, percussion and voice. Romanian folk music forms the bulk of the material, with a healthy helping of Flamenco, Swedish folk music, Klezmer, other folk sources and original songs. www.fishtankensemble.com

Home At Last embraces a rare sense of adventure--and courage--in their approach to music, somehow ending up with something at once challenging, very listenable, and distinctly Rock and Roll. The songs are familiar and resonant, but painted with striking colors unique to the 21st Century, and elegantly laced with the fruits of technology. The crisp warmth from the aging wood of an acoustic guitar is bolstered by fat, trunk-rattling low end from a laptop drum loop. www.halband.com
Jim has been on the scene for more than twenty years and his reputation continues to grow. His songs bring a phenomenal mix of humor, irony and lyrical brilliance to exposing the outrages and absurdities of our times. He has shared the stage with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Dan Bern, Michelle Shocked, Leftover Salmon, Mickey Hart and more. Often cited for his biting political pieces he is in constant demand by the social movements of the day. With local favorite Gene Burnett opening. www.jimpage.net
“The forests of the Northwest resonate with the music of Jim Page. His ability to holistically understand and passionately sing and play about the issues facing our forests and our world is compelling and inspirational. Listening to his music I find myself crying one minute and laughing the next. Jim Page's music takes you on a journey of self-discovery.”
- Julia Butterfly Hill

“Jim's been writing great topical songs for as long as I can remember, bringing his acute wit and wry humor to a host of subjects that can really use both. In the tradition of Woody and Dylan, he cuts right to the heart with music you actually enjoy listening to. I'm a longtime admirer.”

One of my favorite things about Tribe is that it allows us to "get to know" the community a little bit before we come to a new town...and judging by this particular tribe, I'm WAY excited to get to know Ashland.

Anyhow, we're an improvisational folkrocktronica-ish group, with 3 singers, drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, computers, and other gizmos. Our shows are all about sharing in the unknown--with eachother, and most of all with whomever is kind enough to join us for the evening! That's where (we hope) you come in.

You can hear some recorded music of ours at http://www.halband.com. or download live recordings from www.archive.org. If you like it, come hang out at the Mobius on Nov. 18th. If you REALLY like it, drop me a line at jeff@halband.com and we can arrange for you to be on the guest list in exchange for helping to promote the show.

Seems like you folks have a wonderful thing going up there. Can't wait to check it out!

Sat. 13th, 8pm $5-12 sliding scale

This fun filled troupe consists of coaches and graduates of G.R.I.T.S. (Green Room Improvisational Theater School). The Theatresports format features two teams competing in comedy improvisation with the winners decided by audience participation. For occasional breaking of routine players will explore new territory in non-competitive “open scene” improvisational work. The Second Saturday Players feature; David Dials, Alicia “Beesh” Frischman, Joshua Heuertz, Kyndra Laughery, Alia McNamara, Anjule McNamara, Carolyn Myers, and Eve Smyth. The audience is invited to come and enjoy the spontaneous fun. For more information contact Joshua Heuertz at 261-8386, or e-mail Joshua@greenroomtheater.org

Zilla

Live Electronica

Wed. 17th, 9pm $10 advance, $12 at the door

Zilla is a trio from Boulder, CO that is remarkable for it’s ability to create spontaneous compositions. Their live shows are 100% improvisation. Zilla’s musical conversations are a discourse of patterns, melodies, pumping bass and get up and shout beats. Tribal thunderstorms of percussion run down the spine of a lush, melodic and nasty matrix of sound… How many all-improvisational live-electronica hammered dulcimer trance bands have you heard? Advance tickets are available at www.zillamusic.com

Poetry Slam

Thurs. 18th, 8pm (Sign-up at 7:30pm) $3-7

Come to the Mobius for Ashland's only Poetry Slam. A slam is the competitive art of performance poetry. It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they're saying and how they're saying it. Judges are chosen randomly from the crowd and audience participation is encouraged. It is a fun and interactive event with a great diverse mix of Ashland locals. $50 cash prize for the slam champion!

KSKQ KICK DOWN

KSKQ Fundraiser and Live Music

Fri. 19th, 8pm $10 donation

Kick up your heels and kick down some cash for Ashland's very own community radio station! Hosted by MC John Fricker and featuring musical motivation provided by the Fandamily, the Beat Greens, Elijah and DJ Sava. This is an all ages event, but there will be a beer garden available for those well aged individuals. Excelent local pizza provided courtesy of the Creekside Pizza Bistro. Membership info and KSKQ merchandise will be available on site.

I'm sure some of you have seen Hamsa when they've played in Ashland in the past. If so, then you know that the upcoming show is an amazing opportunity to get in some serious live-music dance/trance time in the beautiful ambient physical space the Mobius offers its patrons.

Hamsa Lila is of the warmest-sounding bands around, with a full spectrum of instrumentation and beautiful and exotic vocals to boot. You want Rhythm? Hamsa will deliver. You want authentic world-sound instrumentation, and a lot of it? Hamsa will deliver. You want vocals that will transport you to another time and space? Hamsa will... well, you get the picture. Vir and Inkx will rock your world, by the way, and Nikila will enchant with her dancing. I'm not sure if John Whooley-Lurie will be playing sax with Hamsa on this tour, but if so, it's another reason to make the show Friday night. He is amazing-- a low-key wizard.

I'll be at High Sierra Music Fest that night, but hope to hear your feedback about the show-- that's almost like being in two places at once. Have fun!
Within your being, within your mind and your living body,
lies a world of joy and power.
Within you lies a kingdom that you know little of.
A world of fearless living, of power and of peace and joy.
A kingdom rich with love's glad sharing,
The unfolding glory of your Infinite Being!
All this and more is yours.

Cease from creating a world of lifeless machines,
And learn to use your own living instrument of beauty.
Cease from your pride of conquest and learn to realize
your inheritance of joy.
Dance in the morning--- Dance in the night,
The dance of victory and joyous praise.
Let your children dance and your aged dance.
Let all things move in the rhythm of Life.
Let us dance alone and let us dance together!
Bending with the tides and swinging with the stars
Our task is for beauty, for freedom and joy.
We begin in self-limiting, we end in light.

For our dancing feet bring peace and rhythms of another world.
Our bodies move in rhythmic spirals, powerful and free.
For we are the dancers upon the mountain.
Come and join us now, for we bring peace in beauty of the dance,
Divine and Free.
